It all started with a Christmas present!

Meet David, whose childhood passion has opened doors.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you got introduced to the world of skating.

"I usually go by Dave although I respond to most eye contact and/or intent :) I got my first skates for Christmas when I was about eleven years old. Little did I know this was the start of a new passion. However, as adult life set in, skating took a back seat. The silver lining of the worldwide lockdowns meant I was able to focus a bit more on my hobby. Inline skating once again became a huge part of my life and thanks to the internet I was able to refresh my skills, which finally lead to teaching others myself. This is what lead me to sign up for the ICP level 1 course."

What are your thoughts on the course:

"I found ICP to be a very good fit for how I wanted to teach with an emphasis on both fun and safety to provide a better environment in which to learn. I feel privileged to be able to share my passion with those I teach and...

The Daily Skater!

Uncategorized Nov 20, 2022

A Passion for life.

Meet Franc, an 80-year-old skater who lives in Portoroz, Slovenia with his wife Wilma. Franc passed his level 1 in 1999 and was instrumental in bringing the ICP to Slovenia during the early 2000s.

Since then, ICP Director Kris Frondran and Franc have developed a special bond over skating and her own Slovenian roots. Thanks to Franc and Wilma’s hospitality Kris, her friends and family have been able to spend time skating on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.

Franc, whose aim is to skate every day of the year, has only missed 3 days so far (counting up to day 319) ! He says he meets interesting people, not only locals but also from around the world which motivates him to get up and skate around 8km ( approx. 5 miles) every day from one coastal town to the other.

Those lucky enough to live in Slovenia can meet Franc skating in the city of Piran and those a little further afield, can try to catch him on Tartina Square live cam as he makes his rounds...

"I'M IN LOVE WITH SKATES."

Iryna, can you tell us something about yourself?

I’m an ICP level 2 skating instructor from Kyiv, Ukraine. I speak English, Spanish, and a little German, too. I have been inline skating for more than 20 years and I have been teaching skating to adults and children since 2005. I love all types of skating!

So, which is your favorite?

I enjoy roller dance, freestyle, inline figure skating, urban skating, slalom, and even ice figure skating! Each of these skating styles has something special about it and releases different feelings in me and best of all practicing all these skills helps improve the other.

There have been a lot of changes in your life recently, what can you tell us about that?

As we all know 2022 changed the lives of all Ukrainians into "before and after".
In 2013, I set up my own inline skating school in Kyiv. However, now I live in Germany (Nordrhein-Westfalen) and skate in Dusseldorf,...

Sabine changes her wings in the air for wheels on the ground!

Newly certified ICP Instructor Sabine shares her thoughts about the course.

"Well - I loved it! I am passionate about skating and getting things right, this is exactly what the course made me do! It was fantastic to meet other people from around the world with the same drive.

For someone who has no experience with an online platform, I had to learn as much about that as I had to learn about skating, which was an added challenge. However, with the help of my examiners, I managed and passed my exam with flying colours!

I enjoyed the way we learned to build a lesson. That was great! It helps me build every lesson. I’m sure this will come in very handy for all my lessons in the future and is hugely appreciated!"

What are my next steps?

I am in the process of joining Asha Kirkby’s team 'Skatefresh' and am looking forward to working forward to the Level 2 course.

Wondering what's in the Smart Skate Parent Program?

The Smart Skate Parent Program is an online learning course for parents to help their child learn to inline skate without the parent having to have the skills themselves.

Its for parents who see the benefit and value of inline skating but never had the chance to learn and do it themselves.

We understand this and see that the notion that the parent needing to understand and be capable in inline skating before they can teach or help their child learn how to inline skate should not be the case.

With the COVID 19 happening around the world, we see a shift in primary education where many parents are dreading the fact of going to school, meeting up in big crowds or going to a public facility to join a class. That is also why we believe the Smart Skate Parent Program is essential to help families provide fun and safe activities while navigating these uncertain times.

In the Smart Skate Parent Program you will gain access to:

1. 8 x 2,5 min videos highlighting...
